The Finnish Museum of Photography offers a fascinating setting for celebrating children’s birthday parties.
In this special birthday workshop, participants discover the magic of the darkroom through hands-on activities. At the end of the workshop, each participant gets to take home a framed photograph they have made themselves.
The Birthday Darkroom Workshop offers a chance to experience the magic of working in a darkroom built especially for the Etsin exhibition.
Choose from two workshop activities:
1. Photograms – create photographs without a camera, or
2. Pinhole photography – experiment with a pinhole camera.
What is a darkroom?
A darkroom is a light-proof space where light-sensitive film or photographic paper can be processed and photographs developed and printed. Darkrooms have been used since the early days of photography. A red light is often used in the darkroom, as the photographic paper commonly used for black-and-white photography is sensitive to all other wavelengths of visible light except red.
The birthday workshop works best when the participants are as close in age as possible. When making your booking, please let us know if the group includes children of different ages or languages, so that we can tailor the workshop accordingly.
PLEASE NOTE: Food and refreshments cannot be provided as part of the birthday workshop.
Birthday workshops are available in Finnish, Swedish and English. The workshop is suitable for children aged 5 and over.
* Duration: 2 hours
* Price: €260 (Saturdays €340). The birthday party can be paid at the museum ticket desk by cash or card, or by invoice. A €10 invoicing fee applies.
The price includes admission, instruction, the workshop and all materials.
The workshop is available during the museum’s opening hours. The latest possible start time is 2.5 hours before closing.
