The Youth Group Photofuss, under the auspices of the Finnish Museum of Photography, is intended for young people aged from 19 to 30 years interested in art and culture. As a member of the group, you will gain experience in producing own events and exhibitions and be given an opportunity to develop activities related to photography and photo culture together with like-minded people. The group accepts open applications until August 29.
Are you aged between 18 and 30 years old? Are you interested in photography, visual culture and working together? Photofuss is seeking for five to seven new members for the upcoming season, which starts in September 2023 and ends in the end of June 2024. Your background doesn't matter as long as you are ready to commit to the meetings held every other Tuesday from 18 to 20.
The group meets every other week, and participation to the activity is completely free of charge. Photofuss is intended for people aged 18–30 who are interested in art and culture. In the group, you will gain experience in producing own events and exhibitions, and the opportunity to develop activities related to photography and photo culture through collective work. Outside of meetings on Tuesday, the group has the right to use the darkroom of the Finnish Museum of Photography. An introduction to using the darkroom and to the basics of silver gelatin technique is organized for all group members, after which the darkroom is available to those who are interested at certain times of the week. Previous experience from working in the darkroom is not a prerequisite.
The size of the group varies every year. The selection of the new members is made by the group that will continue for the next season, whose members currently include those studying photography, arts, social sciences, and music, as well as those who make art independently, those who have just graduated from high school and those who are already in working life. Jenni Sundqvist, Master of Political Science, will coordinate the group.
The activities of the group are formed in line with the ensemble of its members. The group offers an opportunity to come up with ideas and organize events with like-minded people. In recent years, the central activity has been planning, producing, and curating the exhibition. The exhibition of this year, Real, is open for public in the Process space of the Finnish Museum of Photography at Cable Factory until August 27, 2023.
Other possible forms of activity include, for example
• meetings of artists and other photography professionals
• visits to interesting art exhibitions
• learning photography techniques
• joint discussions about photography, being a photographer and art
• everything else that excites and inspires group members!
All activities follow the principles of the museum's Safer Space.
