Vuosaari 21 / Vuosaari 21: The New Ordinary

THE NEW ORDINARY
Photography exhibition in the Columbus shopping center
5.12.2020 – 31.1.2021

Hello Liisa,

How are you? Are you doing ok? Everything's fine here. I've recently received phone calls from old friends who don't usually call. Even Riitta called when All My Loving was playing on the radio and asked if I remembered it. This coronavirus seems to be making us more sensitive. Take care and stay healthy!

In spring 2020 we all had to face a new kind of everyday life. The residents of Vuosaari bravely started recording the change and emotions evoked by it with texts and photographs in Vuosaari 21 project workshops. In the Columbus shopping center, there is a display of photographs from Vuosaari's walking routes, places that are important to the photographers as well as small everyday moments. What is a good life when something new and unknown changes the familiar into something else?

Photographs taken by: Juhani Greinert, Kari Mod, Tuija Mod, Matti Pöhö, Arja Sääksmäki, Anna-Maija, Hannu, Leo, Mikko, Raija, Sarita and Tarja.

Guiding the work: photographic artists Kastehelmi Korpijaakko, Noora Sandgren & Liisa Söderlund, producer Julia Hovi & theatre pedagog Malla Riionheimo

VUOSAARI 21 is a joint community art project organized in Vuosaari between 2019 and 2021 by the Finnish Museum of Photography, KOM-teatteri and Klockriketeatern. The project involves cross-disciplinary participatory art activities, workshops, community events and public space art in collaboration with local operators. In fall 2021, the Vuosaari 21 project culminates in art events that bring together the fruits of all of these collaborations.

*The text is part of an exercise: “Pick one photo from your photo albums that features someone important to you. Write them a short message on a piece of paper or a postcard. What do you want to tell them about this moment and this period of time?”
