Art Testers

Why is it difficult to talk about race?

Why is it difficult to talk about race?

Why do we talk about races, even though they don’t really exist? What is Whiteness? Why has Whiteness become an invisible norm? Why should Whiteness be talked about and challenged?

During the autumn of 2025 and spring 2026, 1500 eighth graders from different parts of Finland will visit The Finnish Museum of Photography as Art Testers. The pupils will visit The Invisible Race exhibition through interactive guided tours. During the tours the norm of Whiteness and its relationship to photography from different perspectives is examined, focusing in particular on issues of history, visual culture, ideals of beauty and nationalism
